The Way of the Mystic — Poetry of the Spirit in Translation

Traverse countries, centuries and faith traditions in an evening of poetry-reading and discussion of the devotional works of famous mystics, including St. John of the Cross, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and others.

Hosted by BHCC Distinguished Artist and Scholar Rhina P. Espaillat and featuring area poets in an engaged community of creative writers. Join us as we celebrate International Translation Day, observed September 30, 2023.

This workshop will focus on using the BHCC SelfService tool for educational planning purposes. Students will learn how to navigate their Student Planning tab to understand program requirements, find their advisor assignment, and plan and register for courses. Students will learn some tips and tricks for using the Course Catalog to search for course terms, sections and formats.

Live and In-person Performance

Experience the power and the music by the intertribal group of southern New England women performing traditional and contemporary songs accompanied by hand drums, rattles and water drum. In the Natick dialect of Algonquin, “Nettukkusqk” means “my sister.” Formed by Wampanoag and Nipmuc women from Rhode Island and Massachusetts in 1994 at Deer Island Memorial, Boston, the Nettukkusqk Singers seek to reclaim women’s drumming and singing traditions from their tribal communities. The performance will be in English and several dialects of southern New England Algonquin. This event is dedicated to all missing and murdered indigenous women and Two Spirit People.

The 'I Stand with Immigrants Initiative,' powered by FWD.us, leads narrative campaigns that empower immigrants and their allies to share stories and drive action that demonstrates immigration is good for our communities, economy, and country. They do this to encourage everyone to explore their heritage and celebrate our distinct and shared experiences.

Join fellow staff, faculty, and BHCC immigrant students for a 'lunch and learn' where you will get a chance to actively take a pledge to support immigrant students at BHCC, especially those undocumented, who have TPS, DACA, asylum, and other forms of temporary status. During the lunch, our new Director of Immigrant Student Support Services, Renata Mauriz, will share some data about our immigrant student population and then facilitate a meaningful discussion with a special panel of BHCC students themselves.
