Science, Engineering and Mathematics

Welcome to the Division of Science, Engineering and Mathematics

STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, is an innovative and interdisciplinary field that offers a variety of different career options. Boston is one of the largest hubs for the STEM industry in the world and the Science, Engineering and Math (SEM) division @BHCC has programming in all areas of the STEM pathway. Whether your interest is in the sciences, such as biology, chemistry or biotechnology or you want to explore the high-tech areas of engineering, computer science, or math we have a program for you.

Our faculty work closely with students based on their ultimate career goals, whether that be to work in Healthcare, IT, Computer Science, Engineering or Biotechnology, to advise them into specific coursework and degree programs that lead to transfer to a 4-year school or direct workforce entry. All of our programs include hands-on, laboratory and technical coursework that help students attain the skills they need to be successful in their chosen path.

Course and laboratory work in the SEM division is complemented by extensive outside of the classroom experiences. We have multiple opportunities every semester for students to meet industry professionals in their field of interest, to visit different industry-partner sites, to engage in pathway-specific workshops and events, and to participate in paid internship and research opportunities. Our STEM club has many different projects and subgroups including biology and environmental science clubs, gaming and robotics clubs, and programming and engineering clubs. These groups participate in hackathons all over the state and have recently competed nationally in a NASA-sponsored competition (and yes, they won!).

The Biology and Chemistry departments offer Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees in Biology, Biotechnology and Medical Professions as well as an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree in Chemistry.

The Department of Computer Science has an A.A. and an A.S degree in Computer Science and Certificate programs in Mobile Applications and Object-Oriented Programming

The Department of Engineering and Physics has A.S. degrees in Engineering Transfer, Electrical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering as well as an A.A. in Physics. These programs all focus on transfer to 4-year schools.

The Department of Medical Laboratory Science offers an A.S. degree in Medical Laboratory Technology that prepares students for certification and direct employment in hospital laboratories performing diagnostic testing for the treatment of disease and maintenance of health. The department also offers a Medical Laboratory Assistant certificate for those looking to enter the workforce and work in the hospital setting within a shorter time frame.

The Department of Environmental Science offers an A.S. in Environmental Science and the Department of Mathematics offers an A.A. degree in Mathematics

No matter which area of STEM you are interested in, you will find that that we have programming to meet your goals and faculty and staff to help you reach those goals. Welcome to Bunker Hill and to the Science, Engineering, and Mathematics division.
