New College Students

Guest students are welcome to use all of the placement options available to new BHCC students.

Placement Test Waivers

New BHCC students may be exempt from placement testing based on high school GPA, or scores from SAT, ACT, GED, HISET, or other scores. Check the Placement Test Waivers page to see if you are eligible.

Guided Self-Placement for English

All incoming students should take the Guided Self Placement (GSP) Survey for initial placement in English or English Language Learners (ELL) coursework. The GSP is not a test. It is a series of questions designed to help you find the best English course for you. It usually takes 10-20 minutes to complete.

Students can take the GSP three times. Results are valid for up to six months. The most recent selection is considered to be your course placement.

Math Placement Testing

There are two math placement tests at BHCC: the Guided Self-Placement (GSP) Math Test, and the Accuplacer. Below you can find which test is recommended for students in your major.

Applicants to the Nursing Program

Applicants to the Nursing program may take either the Accuplacer Math Test or the GSP Math Test. This math score is for admissions purposes only. If admitted to the Nursing program, students will still need to take a math course after being admitted.

Note: Applicants to the Nursing Program may take either the GSP Math Test or the Accuplacer. The math score is for admissions purposes only. If admitted to the Nursing program, students will still need to take a math course after being admitted.
