The 20,000-circulation BHCC Magazine has won a major design award from The University & College Designers Association (UCDA), President Mary L. Fifield announced this week. The judges evaluated nearly 1,100 entries and gave out 188 awards. BHCC’s winning entry, which received an Award of Excellence from the UCDA, was a two-page spread in an article entitled “This Way to the Future,” in the Spring/Summer 2011 issue of the magazine. The article dealt with an innovative class on iPhone programming taught at the College.

For the third year in a row, El Planeta, the largest circulating weekly Spanish language newspaper in Massachusetts, has named Bunker Hill Community College “Best Community College” in its annual “Best Of” survey.

Governor Deval L. Patrick has signed legislation to name a street in Salem, Massachusetts, in honor of a Bunker Hill Community College alumnus killed in action in Afghanistan. James A. Ayube, a Salem resident, graduated from Bunker Hill Community College in 2007 with an associate degree in sociology.
