BHCC Student Wins First Place in STEM Conference Presentation

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) Engineering Transfer student Danial Haei Najafabadi was awarded first place in the Physics category for his oral presentation at the 2018 Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Danial’s presentation was based on research he began during Summer 2017 as part of BHCC’s relationship with the Harvard Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program and Dr. Kathryn Hollar, Director of Community Programs and Diversity Outreach at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He continued his research during the 2017-2018 academic year, and plans to remain in the same lab for Summer 2018.
“I am very proud of Danial’s achievements in the Engineering Transfer program, and I am thrilled that he was able to further develop his curiosity and passion through his research project at Harvard,” said Professor JoDe Lavine. “I also appreciate the support of Dr. Kathryn Hollar, along with Danial’s lab group, for encouraging him to share his amazing work with an audience like the Emerging Researchers National Conference.”
The Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) was held in Washington, DC, in February 2018. Hosted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Education and Human Resources Programs (EHR) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Human Resource Development (HRD), the conference helps students enhance their science communication skills and to better understand how to prepare for science careers in a global workforce, and is aimed at college and university undergraduate and graduate students who participate in programs funded by the NSF HRD Unit, including underrepresented minorities and persons with disabilities.
