BHCC President Pam Eddinger Ushers in Charlestown Halloween

Joins US Rep. Ayanna Pressley in welcoming neighborhood to annual tradition 

Bunker Hill Community College Pam Eddinger welcomed the college’s Charlestown neighbors to the 37th Annual Monument Square Halloween festivities on Monday evening. From the stairs leading to the base of the Bunker Hill Monument, Eddinger kicked off Halloween celebrations with a crowd of hundreds of Charlestown residents—many of them brilliantly costumed.  

“Charlestown is a place that we at Bunker Hill Community College are proud to call home. Charlestown may not be where we sleep at night, but we walk the streets, and we shop at the stores...” said Eddinger, wearing a red BHCC sweatshirt. “We hope to see you on our campus—to attend our events, to use our athletic fields—we are a part of your neighborhood and you are always welcome.” 

US Representative Ayanna Pressley, whose district includes Charlestown, came to the celebration in a 1970s-inspired costume that included a leather jacket and Afro. “My love for [Charlestown] is as big as this Afro,” Pressley said, eliciting cheers from the crowd.  

Charlestown Wizard and Poet Jim Duane delivered a dramatic reading of his traditional Halloween poem to officially start trick-or-treating for the evening, and the Tony Barrie Band led the procession from the Monument to the Training Field.  

Chaired and organized by longtime Charlestown resident Diane Valle, the evening featured elaborate costumes, decorations, and was co-sponsored by Massport, the Charlestown Mothers Association, and New England Development.  

Bunker Hill Community College is grateful and proud to be a part of the Charlestown community and to participate in this great neighborhood tradition.
