Thursday, December 16, 2021

The Boston Foundation (TBF) announced that Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) has been selected as a runner up recipient of the 7th Annual Deval Patrick Prize for Community Colleges. This is the first time TBF awarded a runner-up prize and BHCC received $15,000 for their ‘Learn and Earn’ program, which provides internships for a wide variety of BHCC students at local organizations and businesses. In 2017, BHCC received the Annual Deval Patrick Prize for Community Colleges for its Learn and Earn program and was awarded $50,000. Recently, BHCC has redesigned and expanded Learn and Earn to ensure that the program met the needs of students with a range of interests and needs.

BHCC’s Learn and Earn program places students in Greater Boston’s top corporations, small business, non-profit and civic organizations for a hands-on experience. Supported by the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership (MACP), the program has expanded to serve over 150 students a year working 16 to 40 hours per week, supported by over 25 partners. The program promotes student accessibility, diversity, retention, and completion.
