Former EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy on Climate Change

Wednesday, October 30, 2019

Former EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy spoke on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, as part of Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC)’s 2019-2020 Compelling Conversations series and in celebration of Massachusetts STEM Week.

McCarthy has dedicated her 35-year career in public service to environmental protection and public health. From 2013-2017, McCarthy served as the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under President Obama, serving as the nation’s leading advocate for common-sense strategies to protect public health and the environment.

Her leadership and perseverance have led to critical action on advancing environmental, clean energy, public transportation and public health goals consistent with a growing economy in New England and across the United States.

At the presentation, McCarthy focused on the importance of innovation and community-based solutions in solving climate change. “Climate change is an equal opportunity killer,” she said. “We need to think about the solutions to our future, the things that we can do together that won’t require sacrifice, but will give resources to the communities that have been left behind.”
