On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) hosted its 2019 Annual Meeting at the Federal Reserve Bank Auditorium to celebrate 40 years of strengthening Boston’s communities and its workforce by connecting youth and adults with education and employment opportunities, as well as recognize the impact of 2019 PIC Achievers. This years’ event speakers included Mayor Marty Walsh and Superintendent of Boston Public Schools Brenda Cassellius, Ed.D.

On October 8, 2019, the Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) Early College (EC) program collaborated with University of Massachusetts (UMass) Boston’s Mauricio Gastón Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy to facilitate a campus visit for EC students at UMass Boston.

 

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) faculty and staff along with some BHCC students gathered on Friday, October 2, 2019, to visualize the BHCC Student Experience and explore the ways in which the College supports persistence, retention and success of its students.

 

In an article titled “Don’t Call Our Students Kids!” in Ferris State University’s Perspectives publication for Community College Leadership for the 21st Century, Bunker Hill Community College President Pam Eddinger reminds us that the profile of a community college student has grown complex, and with that complexity, there is potential that must be recognized at the college level.

 

On October 3, 2019, the BHCC Foundation Scholarship Dinner was held to celebrate the students receiving scholarships and the donors whose generosity made the scholarships possible.

Earlier this week, the Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) Integrated Marketing and Communications (IMC) division released a companion to the College’s Athletics Logo released earlier in 2019. For the mascot, IMC commissioned Phoenix Design Works, the same national brand identity firm that developed the BHCC Athletics Bulldog.

More than 200 Massachusetts community college students, faculty, staff, and presidents gathered at the State House on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 for Community College Student Advocacy Day to meet with members of the Legislature and urge that they support the state’s community college system in providing a better funded, more accessible, high-quality education for its students.

Bunker Hill Community College was awarded a $50,000 one-year project grant to increase college persistence and completion for graduates of the Boston Public Schools.

Former EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy spoke on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, as part of Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC)’s 2019-2020 Compelling Conversations series and in celebration of Massachusetts STEM Week.

On November 1, 2019, Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) student Angelica Cabrera and Jillian Glaze, Director of Financial Aid, will be honored by the Massachusetts Women in Public Higher Education (MWPHE) at the organization’s annual conference.
