BHCC Student Hamza Faik Donates 400 Hygiene Kits for Rosie’s Place

Hamza Faik is currently a student at BHCC, majoring in Health Sciences and Biological Sciences: Medical Professions Option. Outside of class, he works part-time as a janitor at Mass General Hospital and started the nonprofit Project Restore to provide hygiene kits for over 400 homeless women in Boston, funded solely by his wages. Inspired by his goal of attending medical school, he organized the project without donations, showing that anyone can give back regardless of financial means.

Historic First: Pathways to Success Grant Celebrates Heritage and Community Hosting Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta

For the first time in campus history, BHCC transformed its indoor Quad into "Nuestro Patio" to honor Latinx heritage, inviting all students to share how they would like to be celebrated. We came together on September 16 to celebrate el Mes de la Herencia Hispana and the successful completion of the Pathways to Success (Title V) grant at the Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) Fiesta. This groundbreaking event reflects the vision of Maritza Onodje, Director of Strategic Enrollment and Student Success Initiatives, who led the Pathways to Success grant activities.

For the third time, Tell Magazine, Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) 's student literary magazine, has been awarded a Superior recognition in the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) 's Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) contest. This year, 422 student magazines were nominated by schools in 46 states and five countries. For the 2024 contest, magazines from middle school, high school, and higher education were welcomed.

Welcomed by Arlene Vallie, Interim Associate Provost of BHCC’s Chelsea Campus, Vallie reflected on past speakers. “Bunker Hill Community College’s Compelling Conversation Series has, for years, invited diverse voices, imminent thought leaders, and visionaries to our campus,” said Vallie. “Our guests are here to engage, inspire, and motivate all of us.”

Biogen Foundation Grant Restores Bunker Hill Community College Medical Interpreter Community Access Program

The Biogen Foundation has awarded Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) a $200,000 grant to support the College’s Medical Interpreter Community Access (MICA) Program. The grant will fund the Medical Interpreter program, which is free to students who meet program financial qualifications for the 2024-25 academic year.

This fall, Professor Mark Popeney, Chair of the Performing Arts Department, is stepping beyond the classroom and into the world of podcasting with his exciting new series, Nevermind the Music. Created in collaboration with his colleague and friend, Nichole Vatcher, the podcast is a deep dive into the songs you love and why you love them, delivered weekly for music lovers, pop culture enthusiasts, and psychology buffs alike. The series launched on September 10, 2024, and continues through at least September 2025, with 54 episodes in total.

Bunker Hill Community College Receives Massachusetts Life Sciences Center Workforce Development Capital Grant for Biotech Classroom Renovations

The Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) a Workforce Development Capital Grant to make critical improvements to life sciences classroom facilities and equipment on the College’s Charlestown campus. The grant was part of more than $13 million in awards by the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) to support life sciences workforce development and STEM education initiatives across the Commonwealth. This grant builds on an initial investment by the MLSC of $200,000 awarded to BHCC in 2013.
