Hamza Faik is currently a student at BHCC, majoring in Health Sciences and Biological Sciences: Medical Professions Option. Outside of class, he works part-time as a janitor at Mass General Hospital and started the nonprofit Project Restore to provide hygiene kits for over 400 homeless women in Boston, funded solely by his wages. Inspired by his goal of attending medical school, he organized the project without donations, showing that anyone can give back regardless of financial means.
“The project was coordinated with Kelsey Soto and the Rosie’s Place staff, and it represents everything I’ve learned at BHCC about community, compassion, and service,” said Faik.
He manages every part of the operation, from purchasing supplies and coordinating logistics to reaching out to shelters and delivering the kits. So far, the project has successfully distributed 400 hygiene kits containing essential items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, combs, and sanitary pads. The next phase will expand to serve men, women, and children across the Boston area.
