Professor of Sociology Carlos Maynard and Director of Community Integrated Services Renata Mauriz Receive 2025 Commonwealth Performance Program Recognition Honors
Two Bunker Hill Community College employees were honored with Commonwealth Performance Recognition Program awards this week: Carlos Maynard, Professor of Sociology, received the Commonwealth Equity in Governance Award; Renata Mauriz, Director of Community Integrated Services, received the Eugene H. Rooney Public Service Award.
"I am incredibly proud that Carlos and Renata were honored by the Commonwealth and that their important contributions to the BHCC community are being recognized,” said Bunker Hill Community College President Pam Eddinger. “Community college employees are on the front lines of ensuring opportunity is accessible in all corners of our Commonwealth—it is heartening to see their work celebrated.”
Maynard has been a sociology professor at BHCC for the past decade. He holds two master’s degrees and a
bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Prior to joining the BHCC faculty, Maynard worked as an academic coach at Roxbury Community College and Action for Boston Community Development. The Commonwealth Equity in Governance Award is given annually to an employee or group of employees who have demonstrated a commitment to and attainment of the principles of equity in one or more areas of government operations.
“I am grateful for this honor and appreciate the Commonwealth’s recognition,” said Maynard. “The fair, just, and equitable delivery of state services is at the core of community colleges’ work, and I share this award with my faculty and staff colleagues, who work so hard to serve our community.”
Mauriz joined BHCC in 2023 as Director of Immigrant Student Support Services. Since then, her portfolio has expanded to include integrated services across the BHCC student community. Before coming to BHCC, she worked at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The Eugene H. Rooney, Jr., Public Service Award highlights human resources development as a planned, continuous effort to provide personal and professional growth opportunities that will enhance employee competency levels.

A 41-year tradition, the annual Performance Recognition Program is an opportunity to recognize the outstanding achievements of Commonwealth employees for their dedication and contributions to public service. The Human Resources Division (HRD) oversees the program, which has two recognition tiers. The first is a local, agency, or department-managed certificate award program. Agencies or organizations solicit nominations, review and select their winners, and then directly coordinate any agency award celebrations for employees who they determine are outstanding performers. Every agency or organization has a designated Performance Recognition Program (PRP) coordinator, who manages all aspects of the agency/organization of PRP employee nominations and Certificate of Achievement awards, selections, and communication with winners.
