Monday, November 3, 2025

At the National Council for Workforce Education’s (NCWE) annual meeting, BHCC’s Assistant Director of Workforce & Economic Development, Carla Abate, led a session titled "Transformative Work with Employer Partners, CBO, and Participants to Address Talent Needs and Increase Upward Mobility.”

Carla AbateHer talk focused on the Be Mass Competitive Partnership Program (BMCP) and the portability of curriculum into the Tufts Research Administration & Compliance Cohort (TRACC).

In partnership with BHCC and Tufts University, the TRACC program is a pilot initiative that provides students with hands-on experience in two critical roles: Research Administration and Research Compliance. These fields are essential for managing and supporting research projects at universities, hospitals, and companies.

BMCP promotes upward mobility by leveraging transferable skills to address underemployment and help individuals enter organizations. Carla’s presentation highlighted the importance of efforts beyond technical skills, focusing on employer readiness, environment, and collaboration, which will be discussed in a panel session.

Carla has served as Program Manager for BMCP since its inception at the Mass Association of Community Colleges (MACC), supporting all 15 community colleges. She continues to advance this work at BHCC Workforce & Economic Development through TRACC.

The conference theme was "Meeting the Moment: 30 Years Advancing Workforce Education." The NCWE promotes workforce education excellence at the country's community colleges through various initiatives.
