MA Student Advisory Council Scores Victory for Part-Time College Students

Wednesday, December 16, 2020

On Friday, December 11, Governor Baker made a change in state law that will allow the growing number of part-time students on public college and university campuses to serve as representatives of their student bodies. With two-thirds of Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) students enrolled part-time, this progressive decision allows both full and part-time students to be involved in the BHCC community.

Community colleges serve the largest population of students of color in the Massachusetts higher education system. Sixty-one percent of students at BHCC identify as a person of color. This change to Massachusetts law will create equity and increase civic engagement opportunities among students of color who are more likely to attend part-time.
