BHCC’s Work on Housing and Food Insecurity is a 2017 Highlight for Local Professor

Friday, January 5, 2018

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) President Pam Eddinger received mention in "Our Wish List for the Future of Higher Education" by the University of Venus. This wish list is a reflection of the past year’s events and how they inspire the organization’s blog contributors. Mary Churchill, professor at Wheelock College in Boston, MA, recognizes President Eddinger and sociologist Sara Goldrick-Rabb, Ph.D. for groundbreaking work around issues of hunger on college campuses.

In May of 2017, BHCC hosted representatives from colleges and community partners from across the state for a convening on hunger on college campuses. The event, titled Voices of Hunger on Campus, featured Dr. Goldrick-Rab, author of Paying the Price: College Costs, Financial Aid, and the Betrayal of the American Dream. The event also involved discussions on the survey results of a national hunger study completed on college campuses and an interactive discussion of who is hungry, what resources are available and how college and universities can do more to help the students.

The University of Venus is a collaborative venture bringing together the voices of GenX women in higher education from around the globe. Starting out as a blog, the University of Venus is now a nonprofit in the making focused on advocacy and leadership development. Churchill is one of the founders of the group.
