Bunker Hill Community College Appoints New Dean

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) has appointed Dr. Valerie T. Smith as Dean of Mathematics, Behavioral and Social Sciences, BHCC President Mary L. Fifield announced today. Dr. Smith earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She is currently Chair of the Social Sciences Department and Associate Professor of Psychology at Endicott College, in Beverly, Massachusetts. She will join the BHCC staff on August 12, 2012.

Dr. Smith’s educational credentials also include a Master of Arts degree in Sociology and Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Spanish, both from the University of Texas in Arlington.

She has also served as Chair of the Behavioral Sciences Department and Associate Professor of Psychology and Sociology at Collin College in Plano, Texas. Dr. Smith also taught at the American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, Collin College in McKinney, Texas and at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

In addition to her experience as an administrator and faculty member, she also has a strong scholarly publication record in areas such as mental health, student engagement, service learning and human sexuality.
