Bunker Hill Community College Student Represents Massachusetts at National Convention

Keisha Mayers, a Bunker Hill Community College student from Barbados, will represent Massachusetts as a New Century Scholar at the upcoming American Association of Community Colleges (AAAC) convention, April 17-20 in Seattle, BHCC President Mary Fifield announced this week.
The New Century Scholars program is sponsored annually by the AACC, The Coca-Cola Foundation, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, and Phi Theta Kappa. Mayers was the top-scoring student from Massachusetts and will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
Mayers serves on the BHCC Student Government Association, where she has been secretary and vice president of communications. She is president of The Writers Block, a student club, and is a founder of Females Uniting for Strength and Equality to help students engage in the social, political and economic issues affecting their lives. Mayers is also a member of the Somerville Women’s Commission.
“Keisha Mayers is an outstanding young woman whose vibrant passion for life and learning is evident in everything she does,” said Paul E. Moda, coordinator of Student Activities, who nominated Mayers for the scholarship. “Keisha is committed to using her life as a force for positive social change.”
