Definition of OER@BHCC
Bunker Hill Community College believes education should be affordable, inclusive, diverse, and equitable. The textbooks and materials we use in our classrooms should reflect the values that the Open Textbook community has brought forward from grassroots organizing efforts, which we strive to implement at Bunker Hill Community College. Using Open Education Resources as the foundation and Library resource, we offer faculty and staff opportunities to use materials that are relevant to our community, current to our curriculum, and adaptable to our student learning population. We believe that Open Education Resources provide faculty with the most Academic Freedom. BHCC allows for No-Cost (OER) or Low-Cost (OERL), which is capped at $50.00.
Students
Students may find OER or OERL courses in BHCCselfservice, under Academics, click Course Catalog, from there you can select courses and sections, days of the week, Locations and other attributes that you would like. To select an OER or OERL course, select Course Type and search for OERL Low-Cost or OER No-Cost sections. Once you do that, click on search. It will then take you to a new page that will take you to all the courses and sections of either OER Low-Cost or No-Cost sections.
Students taking OER Low-Cost (course material that is under $50) and OER (No-Cost course material) have saved well over $600,000 in Fall 2025 alone.
