Good News About Your Health Insurance
Now you can WAIVE your Student Health Insurance. Because of the Affordable Care Act, you are no longer required to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) if you have:
- MassHealth Standard, CommonHealth, Care Plus, or Family Assistance
- Connector Care
- Network Health Extend (formerly the Medical Security Program)
- Registered with the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC)
Or if you are under 26 and currently enrolled under your parents’ health insurance program.
What Happens If I Do Not Waive the Student Health Insurance Plan?
If you are registered for nine or more credits and DO NOT waive your health insurance you will automatically be signed up for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and be required to pay the cost of $1,536. If you fail to pay this charge, you may be dropped from some or all of your classes.
If you are a financial aid recipient, and you DO NOT waive your health insurance the $1,536 cost for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) will be automatically deducted from your financial aid. If you have a balance due after projected financial aid has been assessed against your charges, you must pay the difference or join the automatic payment plan online. If you do not settle your balance due, you may be dropped from some or all of your classes for non-payment.
NOTE: If you are an International Student, you must take the Student Health Insurance Plan OR have obtained qualified coverage from a US carrier.
