Personal Development is Professional Development

Thursday, November 1, 2018

On Thursday, October 25, 2018, Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) faculty and staff gathered for Fall 2018 Professional Development Day. Hosted by the College’s Professional Development Day Committee, the theme of the event was “PD = PD: Personal Development is Professional Development.”

“Professional Development at Bunker Hill Community College happens in many venues and contexts,” said Dr. James F. Canniff, Provost and Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs. “Our College faculty and staff value coming together within and across disciplines and work areas to reflect on and improve our practices, review data, hear student voices and share best practices, but perhaps most importantly to learn from each other. Continuous improvement is part of the fabric of this fine institution and today’s professional development program challenges us to consider our own personal development and how it is vital to the mission, vision and values of the College.”

Faculty and staff chose from a series of break-out sessions designed for them to dive in and discover new methods to strengthen and progress in different areas of their life. Moderated by faculty and staff across the College, session topics ranged from financial and physical health and working on communication barriers to unplugging from social media and exploring their environment or creativity.
