The library is not open, but most library resources (articles, e-books, databases, streaming video - https://www.bhcc.edu/library/databases/) are available online, and most library services continue remotely as detailed below!

2. What do I (students, faculty and staff) do if I don't have a library barcode and password/PIN?

For Students: If you are looking to get a library login set up for online access to library resources and have never setup your library login before, please fill out the Distance Learning Application HERE (Distance Learning Application (DOCX) or Distance Learning Application (PDF)) and send it to BHCCLibrary@bhcc.edu. For Faculty Members and Staff Members: contact library staff either via the webchat function or emailing BHCCLibrary@bhcc.edu

3. What do I do if I want to return my library materials currently checked out?

All library materials, including interlibrary loan items, that are currently checked out have had their due dates automatically extended until the physical library is able to reopen.

No late fines will be charged on any materials while the library is physically closed due COVID-19.

Please do not return library books or materials at this time.

4. How can I contact the library with questions?

Any questions about library support and services can be directed to BHCCLibrary@bhcc.edu and staff working remotely will answer as soon as possible (within one business day.) For assistance with library research questions, please use the “Ask Us or Search Our Questions” interface on the homepage.  Chat live with a librarian when the interface displays “Chat with a Librarian!”

5. How can students access textbooks that are physically on reserve in the library building?

Since the Bunker Hill Community College is closed, its physical collections are unavailable, including textbooks and other physical materials on reserve. Faculty are strongly encouraged to scan course reading materials themselves as needed to upload to their course Moodle pages, or find substitutes for books and materials on reserve.

6. Which Bunker Hill Community College Library services are not available at this time?

Since the college is closed until further notice, the Library cannot currently provide access to any of the following resources: physical interlibrary loan borrowing (i.e. books); physical library checkouts, including course reserves; books from the main stacks; or the physical archives.

7. Are there other library and information resources available to BHCC faculty, staff, and students during this time?

Since the Bunker Hill Community College Library is closed, its physical collections are unavailable, including textbooks and other physical materials on reserve.

What does this mean for faculty?

Faculty are strongly encouraged to scan course reading materials themselves as needed to upload to their course Moodle pages, or find substitutes for books and materials on reserve.

How do I scan materials for my students?

If you don’t have a scanner at home, many mobile phone apps are available to create PDF scans with your smartphone! These include TurboScan, Scannable (for iPhone–linked to Evernote), and Microsoft Office Lens (for Android).

After creating a PDF, upload it to your course page in Moodle, including the following disclaimer: “This scan is being provided as part of BHCC’s effort to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It is for your personal use only, and is only intended for use during the time when College public health measures prevent access to your personal copy or a copy on physical reserve at the library. Please discard this copy once you have access to your personal copy or to the physical copy at the library, and do not share it.”

What other options do faculty have to replace physical reserves?

  • E-book and streaming video purchases

Faculty may contact BHCCLibrary@bhcc.edu to discuss the possibility of the library purchasing e-book copies of course reading material, or licensing streaming videos, where feasible.

Boston Public Library

Any student or resident in the state of Massachusetts can register for a Boston Public Library eCard and access the BPL’s extensive electronic resources remotely. These include both academic research resources as well as leisure reading and entertainment materials for all audiences (including teens and kids)!

National Emergency Libraryhttps://archive.org/details/nationalemergencylibrary

A collection of books that supports emergency remote teaching, research activities, independent scholarship, and intellectual stimulation while universities, schools, training centers, and libraries are closed.

More to Come – stay tuned!

Many content providers are opening up their resources during this period of widespread remote learning. BHCC Library staff are busily exploring these options and will provide updates via this webpage.
