Yes. The Medical Coding Program is a 27-credit, evening program that is designed to be completed by working students over four semesters. The Sterile Processing and Distribution Management Program is a 19-credit, evening program that may be completed in either two or three semesters.

Yes, however, students must first meet with their advisor.

Each program begins in September. However, prerequisite courses and general education courses may be completed in advance.

Surgical Technology courses are offered during the day and Medical Coding and Sterile Processing and Distribution Management courses are offered in the evening. However, internships for each of the programs are primarily on during the daytime and on weekdays.

Surgical Technology requires 500 hours of internship (approximately 250 hours in both spring and summer semesters). Sterile Processing and Distribution Management requires 228 hours of internship that may be completed in two semesters (approximately 114 hours in both fall and spring semesters) or three semesters (90 hours in both fall and spring semesters and 48 hours in the summer semester). Medical Coding requires 40 hours of internship which is completed in one week in the fall semester.

Surgical Technology students are placed by the Department Chair only. Medical Coding and Sterile Processing and Distribution Management students may request a particular site; however, accommodation of the request may depend upon several factors including site availability.

Yes, graduates of each of the programs are eligible to apply to take the certification exam.

Each of the Surgical Technology programs assists students with writing their resumes. Furthermore, students are also directed toward sites with job openings by the program faculty. Additional job search assistance may be obtained in the Career Center at the Charlestown Campus.
