Bunker Hill Community College Among Fastest Growing in U.S.

Monday, December 6, 2010

Bunker Hill Community College is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the nation, according to a study released last week by Community College Week. In the category representing the largest community colleges in the country, Bunker Hill Community College ranks no. 27 in terms of enrollment growth– and is the only community college in Massachusetts to make the list. The survey period covers fall 2008 to fall 2009, when enrollment at the College increased by 16 percent.

The growth at the College shows no signs of slowing. Currently the College’s enrollment is 12, 271. Enrollment for the spring 2011 semester is already substantially ahead of this time last year. The College has weekend classes, an online program, courses which run from 9 p.m. until midnight, and has been nationally recognized for its midnight classes.

Total U.S. community college enrollment rose eight percent to 7,648,222 between fall 2008 and fall 2009. In Massachusetts for the same period, community college enrollment rose ten percent, to 102,116. Community College Week compiled the report with information from the U.S. Department of Education.
