Academic Advising Philosophy:
Embracing the diversity of its college community, Bunker Hill Community College recognizes the individual needs of its students. Our academic advisors are dedicated to providing continuous academic advising services to strengthen, nurture, empower, and assist students to make sound and responsible academic decisions through their educational career at the College.
Academic Advising Mission:
Advising in an ongoing teaching and learning process engaging the student with the entire college community, resulting in a plan for academic and career success as well as personal development.
Academic advisors are available for all currently accepted certificate and degree seeking students at BHCC.
Students who are interested in applying to the College and or have questions about transferring to BHCC should contact Admissions at 617-228-3398.
Newly Accepted Student Advising and Registration:
After applying for admission, newly accepted students students receive our Ready-Set-Go New Student Enrollment Checklist which includes information about meeting with an Advisor and registering for classes.
If you have been accepted into a degree or certificate program, you will be assigned for academic advising during your first semester of study. You will be assigned
- a specific Advisor,
- your Learning Community Seminar Instructor,
- your Department of Study,
- to the Advising Center (E235 - LifeMap Commons) or
- to ESL Advising (E235 - LifeMap Commons) for students studying English as a Second Language.
Your assigned Advisor can be found in the Advising tab on the Plan & Schedule section of BHCCselfservice, your online student account.
The Advisor's role includes, but is not limited to, helping students plan their academic course load, continue developing their LifeMap, monitor their academic progress, and to serve as a resource for career planning and academic and student support services. Check your BHCC e-mail daily for information on group advising sessions and other important advising related announcements.
