In 2010, the Office began a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Middlesex County (BGCMC) in the hopes of providing BGCMC with student volunteers to serve as tutors and mentors to the club members. BGCMC, which includes four area clubs, Cambridge, Medford, Somerville and Everett, serves school aged children between the ages of 6-18. On average the four clubs see 75-100 kids a day.
As volunteers, BHCC student volunteers help club members with homework and engage them in extracurricular activities such as sports, dance, and art. However, BHCC student volunteers efforts are not limited to the above mentioned activities, student volunteers also help the with administration support, fundraising events, special programs and much more. More than 100 BHCC students have volunteered with BGCMC through curricular community engagement projects and co-curricular volunteerism.
Currently, BGCMC are in need of tutors to help with our POWER HOUR (academic/homework support) program for club members. Between the hours of 2:00-4:00p.m., tutor club members between the ages of 6-12 at any of our clubs in Somerville and Medford. By sharing your time and influence, you will be serving as a positive role model and presenting a positive influence to our club members.
