English Study for Au Pairs Fall Weekend Schedule and Cost

How it works

You may purchase either the full ten-weekend or shorter six-weekend option. You choose the number of study weeks based on your personal situation and preference.

There are five sections for the six-weekend classes. The only difference between sections is when the course starts and ends.
Sections 01-06 all offer the same level of English instruction. If you are interested in the six-weekend course of study, you have the ability to choose the section that best suits your schedule.

Class Structure and Materials

Class time is spent learning and practicing English skills from Listening and Speaking to Reading and Writing and Grammar. You will study English with others who have similar English abilities. The texts you will be using during the course of study are from the Cambridge University Press Touchstone/Viewpoint series. The textbooks can be purchased prior to the beginning of class from the campus bookstore (located on the 4th floor of the E-building).

Credit Hours and Course Completion

While there are no credits attached to the English classes, the 72 hours for the 6-weekend course meet the language instruction requirements for Au Pairs. The program will give you a Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of the course, which you can then present to your Au Pair agency as proof of having met the English language requirement.

Getting Started: Take the Online Placement Test

The first step is to take a placement test to determine your level. The test consists of three sections: Listening (20 items), Reading (20 items), and Language Use (30 items). It takes about one hour to complete. There is also a placement essay, which takes 15 minutes. Testing takes place in the H-Building in the Hood Office Park (570 Rutherford Avenue). Appointments and walk-ins accepted. If you wish to make an appointment to take the placement test, please contact Abby Massaro at 617-228-2009. Testing hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., but the last test is given at 3:30 p.m.

Coming to the H Building (570 Rutherford Avenue in Charlestown, MA)

We strongly recommend taking public transportation to get here. Take the Orange Line MBTA train to Sullivan Station. When you exit the station, turn right and walk to Cambridge Street. At Cambridge Street, turn left, then cross the busy intersection and walk down Spice Street. Once on Spice Street, walk down to the Hood Office Park parking lot. Walk to building 570 (Bunker Hill Community College). Once in the building, ask the security person sitting in the lobby to bring you to see Abby Massaro (office H-116).

You also have the option to use the BHCC shuttle to get to the H-Building. The shuttle bus leaves from the G-Building located at the main campus (250 New Rutherford Avenue). For more details, visit https://www.bhcc.edu/hbuilding/.

If you are driving to the H-Building, plug in Bunker Hill Community College H-Building, 570 Rutherford Avenue into your GPS. Once you arrive, drive to the back of the parking lot until you reach building 570. Short term visitor parking is located on the side of the building.

Advancement Policy

If you are interested in continuing your English studies beyond the term of your enrollment, you need to register for the full, ten-weekend study option and meet the criteria for passing the class. Talk to your teacher about the passing criteria.

Book Purchase

There are two books to purchase for your course. You must purchase them at the college bookstore located on the 4th floor at the main campus at 250 New Rutherford Avenue. We do not recommend that you buy the books from another bookseller as you may be buying the wrong book. To ensure that you and your classmates have the right textbooks, you must purchase your books at the college bookstore.

The main campus is conveniently located by the Community College Orange Line T station. Once you exit the station, the college is in front of you. When you enter the second floor lobby, walk to the E-Building and take the elevator or stairs to the 4th floor.
