Surf and Turf, sometimes called reef and beef, is a main course combining seafood and red meat, typically beefsteak (Wikipedia entry for “surf and turf,” 2024). The sea food being surf rock and the red meat being rhythm and blues, the Popular Music Ensemble is exploring how these genres mix, and contrast them with more modern songs influenced by them, including original music by Pop Ensemble members Barry O’Toole and Aaron Garcia.

Small Mouth Sounds, A Play by Bess Wohl
In the overwhelming quiet of the woods, six runaways from city life embark on a silent retreat. As these strangers confront internal demons both profound and absurd, their vows of silence collide with the achingly human need to connect. Filled with awkward and insightful humor, SMALL MOUTH SOUNDS is a unique and compassionate play that asks how we address life’s biggest questions when words fail us.
