The Rush for Black Diamonds – Volume One
Join author and BHCC Professor George Walters-Sleyon as he shares on the topic of his latest book The Rush for Black Diamonds, Volume One, the first of two volumes. It explores the Transatlantic slave trade and its mutation into chattel slavery. Volume One focuses on the involvement of two prominent Enlightenment philosophers as the architects of the political, legal, economic, and philosophical justifications for the human trade and chattel slavery in the United Kingdom and the United States: British philosopher, John Locke and President Thomas Jefferson, both slave traders and slave masters. Used as a metaphor, Black Diamonds captures the exploration of Western nations’ rush for Black people across the Atlantic Ocean to be used as economic units and chattel property.

She, Her, and I; a Fleeting Story
A timed multimedia performance installation, She, Her, and I invites spectators and visitors into an immersive sensual experience by meandering in a space in which all their senses will be engaged. She, Her, and I; a Fleeting Story is inspired by lives of multiple generations of women who have migrated from the Asian continent to the States, reflecting back to their mothers and forward to their daughters. The installation aims to remind the spectators how fleeting the fantasized notion of the woman has been when fantasized by the western artists. Especially when she, with her real body and voice, reveals herself through layers of notions and senses. Tonight, She, Her, and I; this mysterious woman beyond the West, who was exoticized in sensational arias from Puccini’s Turandot and Madam Butterfly moves in the space of the performance installation. Proshot invites the spectator to receive the real woman by meandering along her when she paces the space, in between layers of senses, to experience her presence, this woman from beyond the West, in the ocean of notions and senses.
