BHCC and VOICES 21C present Bridging and Breaking

Category>Events, Type>Art Gallery, Type>HOPE, Type>Performing Arts
Art Gallery, HOPE, Performing Arts

Join the BHCC community for a special series of Bridging and Breaking performances on the impact of mass incarceration in our communities with performance collaborators Truth and Onyx White. This performance interrogates our understanding of race and the prison industrial complex in the United States through music and spoken word reflecting on our country, our voices in it, lived experiences of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated artists, and how we can build stronger relationships on a path toward justice.

A post-concert discussion will conclude the program to reflect on what the audience has experienced, and hear from the artists regarding their artistic process and personal experience.

Welcome by Misael Carrasquillo, Assistant Director of the HOPE Initiative
Remarks by Dr. Riikka Pietiläinen Caffrey, Professor, Performing Arts Department
Sponsored by the Mary L. Fifield Art Gallery, the Performing Arts Department and The HOPE Initiative

This performance deals with sensitive topics and issues, including the subjects of race and mass incarceration in the United States. To learn more visit www.voices21c.org

BHCC events are free and open to the public.
